I've given up on FB. If y'all had rather have someone else in charge,
please let me know.

I admin a FB group with over 800 members, it’s quite fun. Photos are posted daily and response is swift. Sure, you battle with the evil that is Meta, but if one is selective about viewing habits, it becomes a tool, just like camera gear…

Doug,

You have my vote of confidence and support for the fine job you've been doing with PDML. And my thanks as well. :)

That said: The PDML server software is a bit primitive by modern standards. have you ever considered going to a modern mail server provider to enable users with much more modern systems to utilize rich text email as well as photo embedding into emails?

I have been pleased with the performance of groups.io and their mail server services. Modern email facilities and seamless use for photo distribution without needing links and such… It's worth a thought about migrating PDML to something like that, if not them specifically.

best,
G

No matter where you go, there you are.

groups.io is email based … the groups.io server simply maintains the list of people to distribute the emails to and transmits the emails you send to the list, plus whatever attachments etc, you want to put in your emails. An administrator simply manages the list (which is also able to have user controls for adding and removing an address and all that), the rest of it is pretty automated and driven by the users' individual email hosts and apps.

If I knew what a UseNet was it might help ;-)

The PDFG now has 25 members and is an extension of this list - not a replacement! I will try and drive traffic to the list where I can, and promote the PUG, but to be honest it’s mostly PDML members.

Sent from my flu-ridden bed!

Usenet is a relatively ancient system for posting information, messages and the like. It was originally phone based relying on dial up modems. It’s now internet based. It’s very basic and straightforward. Although you need an access app, you don’t have to subscribe to a service like Facebook. It’s rather inelegant but old timers embrace it as a computer geek badge of honor.

I resemble that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

I looked up RFC 850, and it dates to 1983, so the transition from UUCP to the internet is about 40 years old, so it’s not like it’s recent.  One could also say a lot of the same things about email (and yes red4est used to get its email via dial up uucp and bang path) but it’s not like people tend to disparage email as something that people used to do over their phones.

Hmm, the more things change…
