Yeah, I saw it, and what he didn't mention was people like me who have a stupid amount of money invested in Pentax glass, and since Pentax gear is such a good deal, both new and used, I'd never be able to even come close to duplicating my kit with another system.

That, and every other system I've used has a UI that is even worse than Pentax. Though I've got to admit as much as I like some of the features on the K-3 III, Ricoh's engineers made some gobsmakinglingly bad changes to the UI.

Ditto what Larry saud. I’m wsy too invested in Pentax glass to consider switching.  My cameras do everything I need and the pubs that I shoot for like the result. Plus, I ‘m just too damn old to start over. But I get the cult-like following. It was once live and well here.

One soon becomes acquainted with any UI. Changing brands would simply
put you on a new learning curve. Using more than 1 brand may be a bit of
a challenge.

That and the fact, that we know our glass, its strengths and weaknesses,
e.g. how prone it is to flare, where in the frame the distorsion is
strongest etc.

The SMC-A 2.8/24 mm has apparently been designed to keep the strongest
barrel distorsion somewhat away from the borders on a 35 mm camera. Put
it on an APS-C body and it will be right at the edges and hence much
more conspicuous. All those little things that you'd have to find out
again with a new system.

As most of you know, I'm one of those who no longer use Pentax.
I had to think long and hard before abandoning the brand -
my first Pentax was a Spotmatic II with the 50mm/f1.4 lens,
purchased (over 50 years ago!) with my first paycheque from
my first full-time job. That was eventually replaced by an MX,
later supplemented by an ME and a bunch of lenses when I got
a one year assignment in New Zealand, and stopped off on the
way in Singapore (where prices were a lot lower than in the UK!)

When the digital era came along I moved to an *ist-D, and later
the K-bodies, ending up with a K5, and a wide variety of lenses.
But as I got older it became more of a problem to lug everything
around, and so I eventually switched to Olympus and bought an M1X.
That, and a few lenses, covered 99% of what I wanted to photograph,
and everything fitted into a single camera bag. The only thing that
I was missing was a backup camera body, and even that problem was
solved when a local camera store was reducing inventory, and put a
new-in-box M1X on sale at half price.

One of the things that I value about this group is that most of us are
photographers first, and the tools (or toys for some of us) we use
happen to be Pentax. That being said, there can be certain advantages
when some people decide to rehome some of their gear because they are
switching systems.

Another advantage of this list over other photo groups is that with the
median age being just barely too young to have apprenticed to Louis
Daguerre half of the traffic isn't from people who got their first DSLR
6 months ago extolling the virtues of bokeh, or manual exposure. Though
I do miss a lot of the more technical discussion and "honest
straightforward critique" of images that was a lot more prevalent when I
joined the group.

But, yeah, there are a lot of good reasons to use Pentax, not the least
of which is "It's what I already own, and it works for me". There are
also good reasons to use something else like "u 4/3 is good enough and
it's a lot easier to carry".

Hah! I'd love to! I remember spending several hours watching the team changing batteries there a few years back. Felipe walks in the room, looks at me, and asks,

"Why are you crying?"

Didn't realize I was, but I was tearing up ...

"I want to be there! Doing that!"

He rolled his eyes. ;)
