When I lived in Paris, the line through the tunnel to the other bank of the Seine still had the early 1900s Sprague-Thomson rolling stock and the drivers loved to accelerate to the max on the way down. A long delayed OT comment re your power surge and related computer issues… Several years ago our trusted local electrician installed a whole-house surge protector. A relatively small attachment on the main panel. I think it has worked properly, we’ve had no issues even when neighbors were having storm surge problems. Stan, I now have a surge protector / uninterruptible power supply for my computer, and a surge protector for our mini split AC/heating system (whose board also got toasted). Alas our electrician fell ill and went out of business, and we haven’t identified another one yet to put in a surge protector for the rest of the house.
