GESO: Unusual wildlife images.

We decided to drive north in the Kruger Park yesterday. Unfortunately it
turned out to be a very hot, uncomfortable day. The first image is a
distant shot at 300mm of a Maribou Stork apparently arguing with it's
shadow at Pioneer Dam below Mopani Camp where we had lunch. With the
very dry prevailing conditions, the Dam is a magnet for parched
wildlife. Many Elephants, Wildebeest, Zebras & Impalas were in evidence
with a smattering of others plus a lot of waterfowl. The other image
(Scroll R) is of Zebras drinking from a waterhole dug by Elephants in a
riverbed. Elephants have the advantage of a trunk!

Nice. I don't think I'm ever going to get to Africa to photograph. I
want to, but life isn't cooperating ...

Yes, nice images, I particularly like the zebras because it is unusual.

This sentence describes so much of what is going on in my life.

Thanks, John & Larry.

I don't bother much with the usual run-off-the mill game shots any more

  • they tend to get rather overdone!  John, South Africa is a cheap
destination with the current exchange rate. The Kruger Park with
self-drive is very affordable compared with the posh private game
reserves & lodges. Much cheaper than East Africa & Botswana. In fact,
all organised tours are very expensive.  We get a lot of tourists
particularly from the Netherlands coming through Phalaborwa every year
in hired Campervans, sometimes in mini-convoys.

Much cooler today after 3 days of almost 40°C - unheard off in Sept.
Hopefully we won't hit 50 in Summer.
