PESO - Bluebells...and Whitebells?

I walk through a beautiful university garden on my way to and from work. There is a ~30 sq m patch of bluebells along my path…and I love bluebells.

A few years ago one plant appeared with white flowers instead of blue. Whitebells now outnumber bluebells by about 2:1, so they must have some competitive advantage.

I haven’t seen them elsewhere, including in bluebell woods in England (my favorite is Badbury Clump near Faringdon).

Interesting, and nicely photographed.
I have some in my side yard, but they are all blue.
