What keeps you from posting photos shot while you were using Pentax gear?

I haven't been able to take any new photos for the last two years and my
days as a 'picture taking' photographer are over but I still have tens of
thousands of RAW and scanned analog photos to sift through and quite a few
to publish.

Nothing stops me from posting old photographs - I shoot significantly less
than some people here, so I've got every digital image I took available.
(And boxes of slides, negatives, etc., very few of which have been scanned).
But that doesn't help me get to be a better photographer. I sometimes used
the PUG topic as a way to prompt myself out of my comfort zone and try some
shots I'd never have thought of myself. Much of the time it didn't result
in anything I wanted to show anybody else, but there were occasions when I
came up with something I was pleased with, and even a few times when I ended
up with an image I felt was worth submitting.

I see a couple of options.

You could use the PUG as an excuse to grab the K-5 and give it some exercise.  I know that the 16-50 doesn't like to be left fallow too long, the K-5 probably prefers to get a bit of exercise now and then too.

You could put the PK adapter on the OM-1 and get some shots using Pentax glass.

You could start an APUG, alternative PUG.  Perhaps one with a simplified user interface that required less moderation, but some sort of password (could be the monthly topic) to keep spammers out.

You could just enjoy the photos that other people do post, that were taken with Pentax gear.

I kind of feel guilty that I never get around to even looking for something to post in the PUG, even though I often look at it and realize I already have a very topical image in my collection.

Is there a list anyplace of all of the historical PUG topics?

That's an idea that has been raised before and always rejected - but
that was when there were more active PDMLers.

Like you, I've moved to Olympus. I've tried adapting Pentax lenses to
the Oly bodies so that I could post something recent, but it's not an
arrangement I'm comfortable with (mainly due to lack of autofocus).

Maybe it is time to look at opening up the PUG to non-Pentax equipment
again?

I have no problem with non Pentax images, but maybe while we’re making changes we could move the PUG into the 21st century by doubling the image size.

Special kudos to Ann and Henk.

I had several, but none taken with Pentax camera or lens. (I've had a
couple of canon point 'n shoot digitals.)

Enjoy the (disappointingly small) gallery here:

http://pug.komkon.org/

Unfortunately I suspect the number of contributors will continue to decline.

It's been 2 1/2 years since I picked up a Pentax (except for yesterday when
I charged up the K5 and checked that it still appeared to be in working order).

I was never a frequent contributor to the PUG, but during that time there have
been a few galleries where I would have been tempted to submit something.
I know I'm not the only PDMLer who has, for various reasons, switched to a
different brand. I may be using an Olympus now, but I still think of myself
as a PDMLer; I haven't even looked for an Olympus User's Group I could join.

I bet there are quite a few old puggers who, like me, still have some of their old film gear.

A couple of years ago I resurrected my old MX and decided to submit to the PUG to keep the camera active.

Shooting film these days is a whole different kettle of beeswax to the old days, because it’s so expensive. But it also makes it very different from shooting digital, and makes best use of those old but amazing lenses.

So I’d encourage anyone who still has some Pentax film gear, even if they’re not shooting Pentax digital, to push a roll of film through once a month and somehow make whatever you get fit a PUG theme.

I still have an MX, LX & K2DMD. From time to time I put a roll of film through them, simply because I like the feel of them and the lenses I bought many years ago still do a good job.

I record the everyday ordinary and it's interesting to see how areas change in a way you don't see day to day. It doesn't often fit any theme at all but I'll happily enjoy those who submit images which do.

I'd love to do that, but my resources for getting the film processed
have shrunk so drastically. I've got film and I've got cameras I want to
use, but there's no where locally I can get the film processed.

I can get C-41 processed (at least 35mm C-41), but I've got a
refrigerator full of E-6, 120 & 4x5 films.

Processing C-41 yourself in any format is easy, in my book easier than
b/w because you don't need endless tables of dilutions, times and
temperatures. With C-41, everything is done with the same parameters. It
can be done at home with little more than a developing tank, a bucket of
warm water, a thermometer and the C-41 chemicals.

E6, however, is another thing, not least because it requires very tight
temperature control. If there is no local lab to process it you will
have to send it in for processing.

I see a couple of options.

You could use the PUG as an excuse to grab the K-5 and give it some exercise.

One thing I found when I checked out the K-5 recently is that after a couple
of years using the M1X I'd definitely have to re-learn the camera - even such
simple things as the feel of the camera (exacly where the basic controls are,
how hard to press the buttons, etc.) are very different.  I'd also got used to
having a screen on the back of the camera for reviewing shots, adjusting settings,
etc.  And, of course, a major plus of switching formats was a the lens weight.

The one thing I didn't have with the M1X was a backup body. I'd been thinking of
getting an M5 - that would presumably be a lot closer operationally to the M1X.
I know you'd been less than completely satisifed with your one, but for what I
tend to shoot most of the time I suspect It would serve me well enough.

I was still thinking things over - after all, you might decide to get rid of
your M5 because it didn't meet your requirements - when I took a look at Mike's
Camera to see what they would want for an EPL-10 (not for me, but our trusty
old EPL-1 is really getting a bit too long in the tooth) and noticed that they
were apparently prepared to sell me an M1X for what they wanted for an M5.

It arrived today.

simple things as the feel of the camera (exacly where the basic controls are,
how hard to press the buttons, etc.) are very different.  I'd also got used to
having a screen on the back of the camera for reviewing shots, adjusting settings,
etc.  And, of course, a major plus of switching formats was a the lens weight.

There are definite advantages to u4/3

The one thing I didn't have with the M1X was a backup body. I'd been thinking of
getting an M5 - that would presumably be a lot closer operationally to the M1X.
I know you'd been less than completely satisifed with your one, but for what I
tend to shoot most of the time I suspect It would serve me well enough.

Yeah, but for what I use it for, it is better than the full size DSLRs

I was still thinking things over - after all, you might decide to get rid of
your M5 because it didn't meet your requirements - when I took a look at Mike's
Camera to see what they would want for an EPL-10 (not for me, but our trusty
old EPL-1 is really getting a bit too long in the tooth) and noticed that they
were apparently prepared to sell me an M1X for what they wanted for an M5.

Really?  How much?  Hmm if I return my OM5 to Amazon and turn it into an M1X for the same money, I'd be rather tempted.

It arrived today.

Congrats.
