We took a trip to a reunion of my wife’s family (everyone fully immunized, and tested within the previous 3 days). I took a whole bunch of photos, and started sorting and editing in Lightroom…

…until the external hard drive that holds my photos snuffed it this morning. Fortunately I have Time Machine and Backblaze backups.

I ordered a new, larger drive from macsales.com. My photo computer is a late 2014 Mac Mini, and getting things connected is always a challenge. I have a few kilograms of cables and power supplies here, and the space under my photo desk looks as though a giant epileptic spider visited.

How so?

I had a late 2012 Mac Mini and now have the 2018 model connected to a
bunch of peripherals including such exotic stuff as a Beyer Headzone
headphone amp via a Thunderbolt adaptor, a Terratec Phase 26 audio
interface, a TC electronic audio level meter and several external USB
discs as well as a NAS and no probs with it. What exactly is the trouble?

My Mac Mini is the “late 2014” model, purchased in 2017, and connects with USB 2 and Firewire. Everything seems to have gone to USB 3 in the meantime.

The challenge will be finding the adapters.

You'll find plenty of them on ebay or Amazon.

I interpreted it as he already has them, but they're down there in the tangle
under the desk.

The challenge is going to be getting down on his hands & knees and crawling
around under the desk to sort them out.

New 8TB drive arrived from OWC. Cables sorted and drive connected. 53k DNG files now transferring from backup disk; estimated time 4 hours.
