Hey all, I have a current iMac running Sonoma with m3 chip, I’m not big on
upgrading os’s but just wondering if many of the Mac people have moved to
15 and if so was it a smooth transition?
I’m on several Mac Facebook sites and some reports no issues and some say
it bricked their Mac,
I know Facebook is not a great resource so I’m asking the group, which is a
great resource

I haven’t upgraded my M1 from 14 yet just because I haven’t bothered. Anything to be gained? But now you’ve brought it up, maybe I’ll do it, and I’ll let you know…

I have an M2 Mac Mini. I routinely do all the upgrades. They almost always add more malware protection and convenience features. I haven’t had a problem in recent years. In the bad old days of major architecture changes there were some outdated software problems, but recent upgrades have been flawless. “Bricking” a current model is usually due to operator error.

My M1 Mac Studio is stuck with OS12 Monterey because I'd have to scrap
thousands worth of audio hardware if I were to upggrade the OS. Those
*beeep* at Apple have broken the Core Sound support for firewire audio
in all later versions.

Ralf,
Yeah, I ran into a similar bit of synergy with my old mac pro, and
lightroom.
Is there any chance that you could run OS12 in a VM on a later OS?
Not saying you should, but wondering if you could.

I “upgraded” to 14.6.1 this weekend, and “upgraded” Lightroom Classic to 14.0.1
What a mistake. LrC opens only the first 3 months of this year (though my catalog covers about 15 years). I am taking a photo course at a local art school, and none of may work for that is accessible now.

Hi David,
I’m still on Sonoma 14.6.1 on my macBook pro (that I type this on) since I usually am not an early adaptor when upgrading OS’s.
However I DO want to stay current eventually. So at some point I will upgrade again ...

Rick, as I recall, when I recently did a LRC upgrade/update, I needed to do a catalog format upgrade at the same time… Some message that if I didn’t reformat my catalog then existing images would not be available.

Yes, what Stan said. Let LrC upgrade your catalogs.
With macOS in particular, i have never seen a reason not to keep OS and apps as up to date as possible.
