Ann -
What's the battery number. I have a dead Coolpix, but I think the
battery is OK. If it's the same thing I'll send it to you before I get
rid of the camera.

John, that is just what I did.. took it to K&M near me , I hardly had
gotten the story out when the gal behind the counter took out tools to
do the chore. She
said the chamber was clean! We will find that out for sure after I
charge the spare battery that came with the camera.. K&M didn't carry
them.. and owner doubted I could find one on line if the one I have
doesn't come to life but I knew already that I could, having seen them
on ebay..
Just got home.. Expect a PESO to follow by tomorrow if all goes well..
Thanks all for your contributions to this project :-)

Just a SWAG, but you could take it to a local camera store and they'd
get the battery out for you & sell you a new battery at the same time.
Although it looks like you can get two EN-EL5 batteries plus a
charger from Amazon for the same price as just a battery from B&H.

I fear it haddent been touched since. which would be great if he had
taken out the battery before storing it. :-(
How bad is it? Possible battery hasn't leaked? Ugh.
I'd actually keep it for a backup and carrying around camera if it
could be fixed and not cost too much.. and sell my Canon SX120
instead. It
is light enough for me to carry for a while and has great features.

Sooner or later "different" scares people.
I put the battery in just now! and shot a couple of boring frames on
auto .. Apparently the battery gets recharged when the battery is in the
camera when it is attached to a USB cable that then goes into and
adaptor into the wall - I havent tried that yet.. Is that right?
battery is EN-EL5.
What I"m gonna need is the manual for it.. coolpix P520.. Will check ebay
thanks Paul, sure I'll take an extra battery

I lost my original Q to a swollen battery. Using super glue did not
occur to me, maybe that would have worked. I did a lot of googling on
ways to solve this problem and did not find any useful answers. Avoid
doing anything intrusive to the battery - like drilling a hole in it and
trying to set a screw or hook eye to pull it out. (one of the not-useful
answers I saw while googling.) Apparently lithium batteries can burst
into flames. In my case, I just bought a Q7 which proved to be a much
bigger upgrade than expected.
Good luck
