Pentax drone photography?

Is there a drone that might be able to hoist a Pentax DSLR.

I've seen some inspiring drone nature photography lately, but no Pentax drone
photography, so I'm wondering how you might go about doing it.

Yes, you would need something like an X Class drone or an 8 motor cine rig.
Expect to pay North of 5 grand, and a steep learning curve. Start in a sim
if you can’t afford to crash

The bigger drones require that you register and qualify with the FAA.

Yeah, I know that.

I was wondering more about if there are drones that could carry an actual camera
rather than having one built in.

It's just idle curiosity.

Correct.  In the US if a drone is used for recreational purposes and
weighs over 250 grams (.55 lb) it must be registered with the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA).  If a drone is used for commercial
purposes it must be registered regardless of weight. The cost for either
is 5 USD for 3 years.

In addition, commercial operations require you to be a licensed drone
pilot so if you take photos or videos with your drone and sell them,
you're supposed to be licensed.  The FAA takes a broad view on what is
considered commercial.  It might be something as innocuous as posting
drone photos or videos on a blog that gets a little income from sharing
ads.  Obviously they're not going to be scrubbing through blogs and web
sites looking for violations but there are folks who don't like drones
who complain and then the FAA will look into it.

Sooner or later "different" scares people.

John,

Plenty of drones are available that can heft as big a camera as you care to mention! Not cheap though ;-)

Yes there are. The ones I am familiar with are made by DJI. They have a
couple of heavy lift drones. I suspect the one you would be looking at
would be their 8 rotor drone, or a similar one from another company.
The camera of choice for drone enthusiasts seems to be the Canon 5D, though
now that mirrorless cameras have taken over, it's probably a Sony that is
favored now.
