It appalls me that anyone would want to "throw away" a piano (& a grand
piano nogal!). Surely a home could have been found for it even if it had
to be repaired. My daughter in the UK says many people leave things like
that on the sidewalk & they are gratefully "taken over" within hours.

Some years ago when we still had the Swiss Boogie Parachuting
Championships in Phalaborwa, There was a stunt where a parachutist went
out of the back of a CL-130 with a piano. He played a few bars on the
way down before opening his 'chute & leaving the piano to its fate. It
hit the ground next to the runway with a hell of a bang and shattered
into a thousand pieces. What a waste.

Shot last November, I never got around to processing  and posting this image - visited this spot today and remembered this shot. Today I didn't manage to shoot out a whole roll of film - got 9 of 12 exposure in the bag - so it will be a day or two before I finish up today's work.

Thanks, Dan. I rekindled my relationship with the 6x7 last year by
finally switching to the waist level chimney finder with adjustable
diopter. As my eyes got older,  focusing with the eye level finder
become a guessing game. I've been using the 6x7 and also some 6x6 TLRs
quite a bit lately.

Hi Ann -

Glad you liked the photo. I think Paul is right - we don't have much
flooding and I don;t recall any activity last fall. It's common to find
trash dumped in the woods and very common to find furniture and old
TV's. But usually they are just hauled off to the woods and used for
target practice. I've never found a piano though!

For a while a couple years back there was some kind of YouTube trend
taking old pianos & demolishing them. The people posting videos didn't
seem to be too concerned with the trash they left behind.

I saw a bit on TV a few years ago where they built a trebuchet and used to
to throw a piano quite some distance, to the great detriment of the piano.

Paul, the rectangular shape tells that it’s the frame, strings, and soundboard from an upright piano. I think that a flood could easly have torn away the cabinet and action, leaving this.

The cast-iron frame would weigh about 150-200 lbs, though, and a thin maple soundboard wouldn’t be bouyant enough to float it. How it got there remains a mystery-- though a raging torrent could have done it, I suppose.

Shot last November, I never got around to processing  and posting this image - visited this spot today and remembered this shot. Today I didn't manage to shoot out a whole roll of film - got 9 of 12 exposure in the bag - so it will be a day or two before I finish up today's work.

The raging torrents in Belgium last summer have shifted the most
incredible things, most of them not bouyant: cars, vans, office
containers... You name them, they've dragged them out of the river
Vesdre afterwards.
