Good afternoon from Philadelphia,

A friend has sent me a series of photos in cpgz format.  My Mac can’t open them.

It can covert the format to .zip, but then can’t make sense of the .zip file either.

I would welcome any suggestions.

It looks like it is just in gzip format, and you should be able to
decompress them from the terminal.

Maybe try from the command line:

unzip foo.cpgz

or whatever it's name is
or you could also try

man unzip
man gzip
unzip --help
gzip --help

This might also have some helpful pointers
