I got kind of lucky on the first go round - my first three images were
obviously "New Deal" photography - FHA, WPA ..., so mid-30s was close
enough for a high score.

Interesting thing about fashions.. there are differences for same time
periods across countries.. so that poses a problem for
us over here..

bottom line.. I really sucked at it.

I wonder how they score them? Looks like it's 1000 if you get it right
on the year & 900+ if you get within one year, ... but I wonder how much
they deduct per year.

But it IS a rabbit hole!

... and another thing - when you get to the end of the game and receive
the results it should have some kind of captions to tell you something
about the photo besides how wrong you were about the year it was taken.

Some of them are pretty obvious. I got one of the guy running with the
Olympic Torch in front of a bunch of NAZI storm troopers - 1936 Berlin
Olympics; and one of Mussolini on a reviewing stand with ol' Adolph
stiffly lurking in the background ... so Rome 1934 BEFORE Hitler
eclipsed Mussolini.

I'm having more trouble with later images. The ones that look to me like
they were taken in the 2000s were either taken a decade earlier or a
decade later.

And a lot of street scenes from the late 40s to the early 60s all look
the same. After the mid-60s if it's got a gas station sign in it, I can
get kind of close based on the prices.

does the quiz know your location and intentionally show photos that are
less likely to be recognized? hmmm

JOhn
Yes, itis annoying that they don't give you the actual correct answers
in therms of what is going on...  maddening..
I wonder  if doing a screen shot of the photo itself , save the file,
and then doing an image search on google would result
in a captioned photo..

Interesting game indeed.

Ran it about ten times usually between 1500 and 3000. High-score of 3264 with one 1000-pointer in there.

Usually by about a decade ;-)
