It was hesitating a bit a couple of days ago, and isn’t working at all today.

The camera battery is freshly charged, and everything else is working.

Should I try to get it fixed, and if so, where?

Or, should I look for a new or used copy?  Or another lens (such as the

Unfortunately, it seems to often be cheaper to buy used than to get a replacement.

I assume that you've done all the basics like clean the contacts, cycle power, remove and replace the lens, tap it gently with a sledgehammer...

Nothing useful to add but I do hope you don't leave your patients with such a cliffhanger.

Today I took a photo walk with the photo class I enrolled in.  I had intended to substitute another lens for the 17-70, but forgot to.  I focused manually for several shots, and then the lens woke up and autofocused without problems for the rest of the morning.

Not sure I trust it, of course…

My 16-50 will play a similar game if it is left fallow for too long.

I'll put it on a body and it won't focus, then it will wake up and be
fine until I neglect it for too long
