All the leaves are green and the sky is blue. I went for a ride yesterday around the country lanes north of here.
Stopped beside a church I passed along the way. Well, a Quaker Meeting House that was owned by William Penn and his friends, back in the day, and I thought it might interest our US chums.
I had lunch in the pub shown in the Frank Patterson drawing - that’s me dismounting. The pub’s not as old as the Quaker house, only 200 years, but hasn’t changed much since Patterson drew it.

Wonderful photos, Bob!
When you have a few minutes you should read about the Walking
Purchase. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking_Purchase My wife is
a direct descendant of Edward Marshall. Small world, huh?

Interesting frame design. Makes my engineering hackles stand up.

I hadn't noticed that. My first though was "if you have your seat that far back, do you commute by brachiating?".
But it actually looks like the relative position of the seat, cranks and rear wheels is pretty close to normal, though the rearmost set of tubes might be a bit more vertical than normal. Does that give you more weight on the rear tire when going up hill on slick surfaces?
Or I could ask the google monster, "flying gat" was enough of a clue

Another point of interest is that that Flying Gate is a fixed-gear bike. The guy who owns it lives quite near to the pub and has quite a stable of made-to-measure classic steel bikes, all fixed gear. He also takes part in Audax rides on them of 200 miles and more…
As for brachiating, he is starting to develop arthritis in his hands and told me he is having to raise his handlebars to make riding easier, so if it goes on long enough he may end up brachiating.
In fact, the seat is no further back than it would be with a conventional geometry, and probably has a much shorter reach than a normal racing (as opposed to touring or audaxing) bike.
