I received this email this evening:
I'm an archival researcher and I came across your photograph 8237315670 on Flickr of the 2012 Santa Cruz lighted boat parade.
I would like to license this photo for use in a television documentary. Can you let me know if the photo is available for licensing and what the cost would be for a non-exclusive, worldwide, all media, excl theatrical license?
You can reach me at mike@cabbageleafpictures.com or 202-468-0630.
Thank you,
Mike Garrity

for the ship, from it's owner. can't help with the prices these days

He doesn’t need a model release if he shot the ship in a public space. Libel law is clear on that. I would ask for $500 and expect much less. The NY Times pays $150 for general interest photos. The only photos that can bring big bucks are candids of celebrities.

Thanks everyone.
For obvious reasons, I asked Cotty about what he'd expect to pay for a
photo used in a video clip, he said about $100, and Mike offered $100.
So, for basically zero effort that's a good starting point.
Here is what Mike said about the photo:
This is the exact use we are planning on for the photo. The documentary
is a true crime series for Investigation Discovery on the death of
Google executive Forrest Hayes in 2013. That is a picture of his boat in
the Christmas parade in 2012.
