I bought the Pentax f/3.5 SMC 28mm SHIFT lens. I have it mounted on the
K-1. Following the directions I focus & shift with the lens wide open
and then turn the aperture ring to match the preset (f/8) and here's
where I'm stumped.
The camera doesn't prompt for me to enter the focal length when I turn
it on, but I managed to find in the custom menu were it allows the
aperture ring to be used, so the F-- stopped blinking.
But I haven't figured out how to get the camera to tell me the proper
shutter speed?
I have RTFM, but if it's in there I either couldn't find it or didn't
understand it.
Help?

If the camera is in manual mode, press the "green button" and it
should set the shutter speed to what it thinks is correct.
Is it an "A" lens?
It is K mount, not M42?

It is NOT an 'A' Lens. It's this one:

In any case, use the green button, a quick bit of google fu found this
https://www.pentaxforums.com/articles/photo-articles/pentax-green-button-guide.html
In a nutshell, all you have to do is press the green button before
taking your picture, and the exposure should often be correct.
Ultimately, the green button does exactly what it would with an
automatic lens, with the addition of the mechanical stop-down step.
For more details on metering with manual lenses, check out our step by
step tutorial or watch the video below:
