Of course, San Antonio has the largest single-occupancy office building in
the world, an office complex bigger than even the Pentagon.

Possibly the Hotel Havana which would have been there then, it is a bit up
the river from the main tourist area and small like 27 rooms.  But I'm sure
there are other properties that could fit that description also.

And 1976 would have been before either of those Marriott Hotels were
there.  The shorter one dates to 1979 and the taller one 1988.  Rivercenter
mall wouldn't have been there which the Taller one is attached to.  But
Joske's(Large Department Store) would have been there, It is that building
on the Middle left, which was recently completely gutted and renovated, and
now hosts a bunch of different things. Dave & Busters, H&M, an Aquarium,
Lego Store, a food court, etc.  I was never in Joske's but it must have
been huge.

I don't know whether I have photos of it -- I certainly have B&W shots
taken with my KX along the
river and at the Alamo .. may have color too..

I'll check out Hotel HAvana on google and look at my contact sheets

Yes this is true, but it also isn't downtown and like the Pentagon is low
rise (4 stories) just has a very horizontal spread.  And it is on a campus
that if you didn't know better you would think it was Military.

Nice shots, but I really prefer the K3 rendition. To my eye the wider
angle view, bringing in the two converging highways, make for a more
engaging composition.

Left the first one up on the screen overnight so it was the first thing
I saw this morning when I came in here where the computer is ...

Got me wondering. There's a image of Raleigh that I'm sure every
photographer that lives here has tried to capture one time or another.

What are the iconic scenes in YOUR neck of the woods that sooner or
later capture the imagination of every photographer in town?

Yeah, but not all of us here on the list are so privileged.

And even in New York I'm sure there are some views that are MORE ICONIC
than others; scenes that EVERY photographer ... if he/she is going to
consider him/her-self a real PHOTOGRAPHER ... has to capture for the
portfolio or just for the personal satisfaction.

How many photos of the Brooklyn Bridge have you taken over the years?
Have you ever found the time, the place, the angle of view & the perfect
light to make it THE PHOTOGRAPH?

... the one that finally says, "Ok, I got that one."

And there's a whole other world outside of New York City. I KNOW you
know that, because I've seen the photos you've posted from other places.

I don't comment on most of the photos posted here, but y'all should know
that I do try to look at every one of them **.

So, what are the rest of y'all's iconic scenes, the ones that aren't
Raleigh or New York City?

That is a nice shot, I like the snow scene. I assume that is a somewhat
rare occurrence in Raleigh?

One can pretty easily find variants of my picture, it is taken from the top
of a parking garage and by just being observant you can realize that would
make for a pretty good place to get some shots.  You just have to be
willing to go do it, I've never been bothered by security or anything like
that though, which would be a concern for some.

The shot isn't really reflective of the San Antonio skyline, most other
tall buildings are behind this shot, including the Tower Life building
completed in 1929, which was the tallest building west of the
Mississippi when completed, and the newly completed Frost Tower first large
downtown office building built since 1988, plus several other large
buildings.

I don't actually have a full skyline shot, but have been wanting to get one.

Not what I was expecting Raleigh to look like.  I had an image of the standard 1950s one-street town.  There's not really a local urban landscape like that around here but many smaller subjects.  A few examples.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penshaw_Monument
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyne_Bridge
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durham_Cathedral

All of them have been done to death, photograpically.  The only time you're going to see a new version is after a nuclear apocalypse.  Unless that's my lack of imagination talking....
