I'm re-reading /Halting State/ by Charles Stross. Right up front are the
"acknowledgements" and whose name should appear but our own Larry Colen.

PS: NEVER go shopping on an empty stomach. Stopped by Costco on the
way home from the dentist to pick up some cheese (they have my favorite
REALLY sharp cheddar) ... and walked out with a 27" iMac.

Anyone know where I might find an old version of PhotoshopCS6 Extended
Edition for Mac? I am NOT going to install Lightroom or Photoshop
ransomware/extortionware edition.

I want an actual licensed stand-alone version.

Yeah, I was one of his friends that would read and comment while he was writing it. I know him from the same online community where I met Nolan.

It was awesome when his first novel, Singularity Sky was published, I picked up a copy and after I finished it sent him a note that I enjoyed it.  He responded that he had just finished the draft of the sequel, and was I interested in reading it.  Talk about instant gratification and not having to wait a couple years between releases.

What OS is yours running?

I can empathize, recently gave in on that battle.  I updated my mac pro to mojave and that broke it on LR 6, so I tried LRC, and that wouldn’t work on Mojave, so I had to hack it to install Catalina.  Monday evening I got home and it booted up into the OS installation screen.  My system drive had gotten overwritten.  Fortunately my home directory was on another drive.

I bought a replacement for the boot drive, the first step is going to try to do a time machine restoration onto the new drive.  Then I’ll need to figure out what to do for a new box for photo processing.  I expect that there should be some wicked fast desktop machines based on new processors coming out soon.

It’s an early 2009 mac pro that was given to me about 8 years ago.  Over time I’ve upgraded the memory, the drives, the graphics card, I put in an PCI SSD,

It currently has about 3TB of SSD, and 35 TB of internal spinny drives.  For a 13 year old computer that has been hotrodded so far beyond it’s original specs it really isn’t doing too badly, considering that it was my bargain brand (OCZ) ssd that crapped out.

Photoshop CS6 won’t run on a new iMac 27. It won’t even run on my 2015 iMac with the current version of OSX installed. But the subscription version of PS and Lightroom work great. I think I pay $10 monthly. Best software purchase ever. And I’ve had at least 10 versions of Photoshop going back to the very first over 35 years ago.

This is an Intel processor (i5) iMac and the version of CS6 I have is
full 64 bit ... but it is Windoze, so I'd be looking for a Mac 64bit
version.

I've been using Photoshop since at least Photoshop 5. Don't remember 6,
but I had 7, CS, CS2, CS3, (skipped CS4), CS5 and CS6 Extended. Adobe
pissed me off with the way they handled the change from perpetual
license to rent-ware, so I'm not renting Photoshop from them.

If CS6 won't work on the iMac, I'll find something else.

I like the Coastal Cheddar (the imported English Cheddar), but I can't
slice it properly, so I've been getting the Adams Reserve New York SHARP
Cheddar, which comes pre-sliced.

I'm not sure yet. I haven't had a chance to unbox & set it up. I've
still got to de-clutter a place for it to sit.

Also I think it came with that tiny keyboard that doesn't have a number
pad, so I ordered a Macally keyboard & mouse from Amazon that are
supposed to arrive tomorrow (Monday).

The standard Apple mouse has always given me trouble because I forget to
press the function key on the keyboard to get the "right click" (been
using Windoze so long)

The TMUG (Triangle Mac Users Group) has a zoom meeting on Monday, so
I've got to get busy and clear out a space for it if I want it up and
running before then.

I want an actual licensed stand-alone version.

This has a 256GB SSD. I bought an 8GB Seagate external drive that has a
USB 3/USB C hub built in.

I guess I'll eventually figure out how to do all that stuff.
