Maybe people enjoy it.
Doing panoramas in one shot is the only way to go when moving subjects are involved. I've learned the hard way that this even applies when you don't think of the subject as moving: a lake or ocean may be stationary in and of itself, but those waves can really spoil a stitched pano.
There are a lot of things you can do with film cameras that are fun.
