We didn't quite get totality here. I think the photo I posted was about the maximum.
I realised partway through the eclipse that having the stars in there was a bit more interesting. I didn't quite go this far though...

Exposure was done through trial and error. The histogram was of no use. I found that exposures of several seconds caused a bit of blur so I settled on 1/2s at ISO800.
Getting it reasonably in focus was largely luck. Infinity focus is pretty hard to get manually with that lens. At first I used AF, then when the moon became too dark I switched to manual and used Live View zoomed in, which wasn't amazing in such dark conditions but it did the job well enough. Once it was set I left it there. I was taking my chances a bit as I had the lens wide open to shorten the exposure.
I was also quite lucky with the weather. For most of the evening we had a lot of patchy fast-moving cloud at low altitude. It mostly cleared away about 15 mins before the eclipse started. Before the eclipse I could see the moon through the cloud but it would have made things difficult as the moon darkened.
