16-50 redo

They are yes, and it promises to be an outstanding lens.

Mike Muizenbelt did a short review of a pre-release copy on Youtube.

It is focussing fast and accurate, and is amazingly sharp, even in the corners.

However, since I already have the older one (SDM) which works OK, and also have the K1 with 24-70 en 15-30, an upgrade is not really worth it at some 1400 Euros/dollars I think ;-)

My first thought is that they really ought to have made it a 15-50 or some other adjustment to the range just so it isn’t confused for the original.

I also note that this bodes well for K-3 iii owners, but maybe not so well for the K-1 crowd.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how it actually performs once it is available.

It sounds like Ricoh is designing wonderful niche lenses that few need and
fewer can afford.

Leica almost died a couple of times.

I'll bet Pentax still makes money for Ricoh on every unit sold. In fact
the imaging division may be the only profit center making a profit.

There is also a lot of synergy in their current, and past digital camera
lines.  I expect the the next K1 iteration will have the focusing module
that's in the K-3III and the new processing engine with very little
difference in programming, but a faster bus, to make the frame rate a
bit more competitive.

If there is a follow on to the 645z, and I think there probably will be
since most of the R&D was done for the K-3III, the new bus, processor
and AF modules will all be rolled into that model, with only minimal
changes to firmware, and almost no changes to the actual hardware beyond
flex boards and chips.

It would be nice to see a few new lenses for the 645 line but when I was
working for an actual working pro, he only had two normal lenses, a wide
and portrait telephoto for his brace of Bronicas.

Leica is putting their name onto Huawei camera phones these days.
The mighty have kind of fallen off their plinth.
