K3-iii noise reduction always on

I found this thread discussing how even when noise reduction is turned off, the K3-iii demonstrates that NR is being applied.  I haven’t delved deeply into the math>

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4571492

It also says, that it manages to do this without a loss of detail.

There is a lot to go through in the comments.  It’s been nearly 40 years since my last DSP class.

Like everything else DPR, they will toss around a lot of theoretical
bullshit with no looking at visual results, and then conclude that the
out of focus rendering of a green chain-link fence is indicative of LoCA
because they pretty much all have their heads up their asses over there.
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure the engineers at Ricoh/Pentax have more on
the bit that some internet eggheads that think they have built a test
bench out of some scrap 2x4s and an empty Coke bottle.

The baked in NR will have them pilloried, whether or not there is a loss
of detail.

Pentax have a history of messing around with noise reduction. When the
K-7 first came on the market, its noise reduction per 'darkframe
subtraction' was always on when the camera was set to B. A lot of people
complained and there was an update making this feature switchable. Yet,
not quite. While the display clearly said it was off, it was actually
still on at times over 30 secs. Astrophotographers and people shooting
things like fireworks or thunderstorms had to hold on to their K10D.

So, some people may be a little sceptical. With Pentax off doesn't
always mean off, even if they say so.
