eclips
Well, that was the eclips tonight. I had sought a decent location on a
dune top to take some pictures.
I got special carton eclips glasses from my optician and was therefore
well prepared to view the event.
However, as the eclips was not more than 90%, I discovered that there
was too much contrast with the remaining sunshine for a proper landscape
picture. I should have used a graduated ND filter.
And I didn't dare to take a close-up of the sun/moon combo without a
special eclips filter .
Lesson learned. Now I have to wait till 2081 for another decent eclips here.

It was quite interesting here. I couldn’t watch the eclipse itself as I had an urgent dental appointment exactly at the time of maximum coverage. I didn’t mind as I saw the last total eclipse and also another good partial one a few years later.
I walked to the dentist with the sun on my back and it was interesting to see so many people holding colanders to get the projected shadows, and people trying various other things to see it, including one woman who seemed to be watching it directly through her fingers, which would have been very stupid. As I arrived at the dentist’s all the staff were outside watching through eclipse glasses in their dentist and nurse uniforms.
The whole 10-minute walk would have made a nice little photo essay, so I think next time I’ll take photos of the watchers of the sky.
At maximum coverage I could see the sky to the east from the dentist’s chair and it was very weird colour. Altogether a very interesting and enjoyable experience.
Except for the bill.

Just enough hazy cloud to render it invisible here, although it did darken and everything went quiet. Also bolloxed up the Perseids.
