I've had my first AZ and felt fine for the first 12 hours or so - then had
fluey feeling, inc an hour of chills, then slept and in the morning was okay,
fine later that day. No arm pain at all.

The incidence of fatal blood clotting is approx 1 in a million. The incidence
of blood clotting from taking the birth control pill (say) is 1 in 1000. Too
low to be worried about it.

The news I've read about it says they know what causes the blood clots &
apparently a simple standard blood test will reveal if you have the condition
that will lead to the clotting reaction (high red blood cell count IIRC).

They should be able to screen for the vulnerability and give those people a
different vaccine.

You can tell the AstraZenica vaccine was built by a bunch of eggheads in
a university lab while the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were built by
corporations by the amount of bullshit AstraZeneca is going through
because they aren't any good at navigating the political bullshit.

And their problems are compounded by a lack of quality control and in-house manufacturing capability. I got Pfizer and couldn’t be more pleased.

I heard Moderna and J&J are killing shipments due to QC issues, Pfizer has
had numerous QC violations in their plants as well.

I didn't realize a particular vaccine was some sort of badge of honor.
Apparently they all do pretty much the same thing.

Pfizer and Modena claim to have better test numbers than the others, so many are responding to that. We looked everywhere and were prepared to take the first one we could get. In Michigan, odds on that would be Pfizer.

The test number difference is primarily due to differences in procedure.
From what I've gathered. Pfizer/ Moderna were more gearing their tests
towards getting positive results.
I read a report, I believe in the Guardian, that the Pfizer vaccine (and
I presume Moderna, since they are practically identical technology) have
efficacy rates somewhat below 90% , while Oxford (and probably J&J) are
slightly below 80% in the real world
These are all fantastic numbers for a vaccine, efficacy numbers rarely
rise above an actual 50%
J&J is apparently having the same blood clotting issues that Oxford is
having. No surprise since they are similar technology as well.

All seem to have reasonable effect on both the Brazilian and Kent
variants, and are pretty useless against the South African variant.

Where I am, the wild virus seems to be on the verge of having run it's
course, and we are seeing more new cases of the B.1.1.7 UK with a
smattering of B.1.351 SA variants.

I suspect we are going to be playing whack-a-mole with Covid19 for a
very long time, especially since a significant percentage of populations
seem intent on engaging in activities that guarantee the spread of it.

Yeah. I got the Pfizer, but I got Pfizer because Pfizer was what the VA had
available when I became eligible.

I don't know if the hospital in Durham got Moderna AND Pfizer or just the Pfizer
and I don't really care. I took what they gave me and was happy to get it.

AstraZeneca hadn't been approved yet when I got my vaccination & I don't know if
the VA is using it now or not.

Funny thing ...

I had an actual real live face to face doctor's appointment over at the VA
hospital ENT clinic Friday and while I was waiting they had people come by and
ask people if they wanted to get vaccinated.

Of course I told them I'd already had mine.

AstraZeneca hadn't been approved yet when I got my vaccination & I don't know if the VA is using it now or not. Funny thing ... I had an actual real live face to face doctor's appointment over at the VA hospital ENT clinic Friday and while I was waiting they had people come by and ask people if they wanted to get vaccinated. Of course I told them I'd already had mine. On 4/9/2021 19:46:52, Paul Stenquist wrote: > Pfizer and Modena claim to have better test numbers than the others, so many > are responding to that. All pretty normal when dealing with living organisms.  My wife was known as the Angel of Doom when she worked in a QC lab for a production process that involved batching living cultures.  At least one in five batches had to be tossed due to contamination.

I didn't realize a particular vaccine was some sort of badge of honor.
Apparently they all do pretty much the same thing.

The end result is somewhat similar, albeit with varying levels of success.  Still better than getting a dose of the disease, though, whichever option you end up with.  The route the vaccines go to achieve that immunity is what varies considerably.

Astra Zeneca. They got loads of that now and us over 60s could apply
to be
vaccined well ahead of our planned time. I wasn't exactly
enthousiastic but
Michael gently nudged me (at least that's what he calls it).

I've had my first AZ and felt fine for the first 12 hours or so - then
had
fluey feeling, inc an hour of chills, then slept and in the morning
was okay,
fine later that day. No arm pain at all.

The incidence of fatal blood clotting is approx 1 in a million. The
incidence
of blood clotting from taking the birth control pill (say) is 1 in

  1. Too

low to be worried about it.

You can tell the AstraZenica vaccine was built by a bunch of eggheads in
a university lab while the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were built by
corporations by the amount of bullshit AstraZeneca is going through because
they aren't any good at navigating the political bullshit.

And their problems are compounded by a lack of quality control and
in-house manufacturing capability. I got Pfizer and couldn’t be more
pleased.
