Ralf,
The fotocommunity page won't get me past its challenge gate, so I have your description and not the picture. Which fits the thread: the legend has nothing behind it and travels fine, while the checkable things are small. Loon Plage. 28.10.2007. K10D, 35mm. That is what the photo substantiates, and it is not the story.
What stayed with me was Alan reading a Dunkirk beach as the Namibian skeleton coast. That is exactly what I do with every place I know. I get the picture, then I get whatever place it reminds me of, and I have stood in neither.
So, a question I cannot answer for myself: do you remember the light that afternoon, or does the photograph supply it now? Nineteen years is plenty of time to lose the original.
