This is my second attempt at doing nighttime landscapes. I'm not very good
at it yet.

Anyway this is a 2 image composite shot using the K1 and DFA* 85/1.5 using
the Astrotracer for the sky and time exposure for the foreground.

Enjoy

It's lovely!  Nice geometry.. , nice colors, nice atmosphere - looks to
me like you're pretty good at it.

It’s a pleasant image, I see nothing to be so modest about

Thanks Larry. The camera was giving me kittens last night. I've been using
the Fuji so much I've forgotten how to run a K1, which is embarrassing. The
GPS gave me an OK for calibration, but I suspect I should have done it
again. I don't think it was tracking quite right. I wasn't getting the
exposure times I thought I should have been getting before I started
getting trails.
Also, the DFA* 50/1.4 is not an especially good lens for this, as I have
read on several night photography forums.
One of my goals this year is to get some decent night sky photographs.
I did discover a couple of cool features in the K1. Timed bulb exposures up
to twenty minutes is supported by the camera, for example. I didn't know
about this until I decided I wanted to try shooting night scenes.
Also, my location seemed pretty dark, but apparently wasn't.
I live pretty close to one of the dark sky places in North America. It's
about a 3 hour drive from me. My intention is to hone my skills a bit more
and then head out there for a session.

thanks again

Thanks Ann. It's a bit creepy standing around in a dark field wondering if
there are coyotes stalking you, but it turned out OK.

That's quite beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your results from a
darker environment.

Very nice. Your next challenge, as you go off to the darker locales, will be to find another perfect foreground for your stars.

Thanks guys. I had actually thought it was pretty dark, I might have lifted
the shy more than I should have. I like the effect, but it's not a true
representation of the sky in rural Saskatchewan at 1:00 am.
I tried to do something more representative, but it looks like I have about
a thousand hot pixels.
