I have been using it a short while on my MX Linux desktop, but I prefer
Lightroom.

Tried it about 2 or 3 years ago and found the UI so awful that I've
never touched it again.
Been using DxO PL4 and ON1 since.

Same here. Tried it but didn't like it, mostly because of the UI.
Nowadays I just use Apple's Photos for initial sorting and a few
adjustments, and Affinity Photo for the more involved stuff.

I don't use Darktable per se, I downloaded it to evaluate alternate raw
rendering software, quite some time ago, and still have it installed on
my desktop. My opinion at the time was that it worked but the user
interface would take more than a bit of getting used to and there were
more intuitive programs out there. As it is I'm still using DxO Optics
Pro. 9 which still does everything I need it to do, and for anything it
can't do with it,I can use my old version of Photoshop CS2.
Personally if I were going to use a "Free" raw processing program, I
think I'd go with Raw Therapee. The interface is more like what I'm
used to and they seem to cover all current Pentax camera bodies, so I
would expect them to support pretty much everything else.

I came across Darktable purely by accident. The blurb said it was better
than Lightroom in many respects so I just wondered if any of you boffins
had tried it. If the UI is as poor as some of you say, I wont bother
with it.

On a related note, I've been playing with the demo version of ON1 2022
since yesterday. While they have indeed added a control for the
sharpening on JPEG export, which was my main criticism, the correction
of colour fringes still doesn't work as it should.
I have no use whatsoever for a function to swap the sky for something
much more dramatic or for adding soap bubbles to the photos of the kids
I don't have anyway.
Their new AI noise reduction is indeed impressive but I don't think that
alone will make me unstring my purse.

I wouldn't call it poor, but it is different, much the same way that Raw
Shooter from 2006 was different. I still have a working copy of that
and when I go back to play with it, it's really alien, all the controls
are there more or less there, but not like anything I'm currently used to.
Darktable is seems to be quite capable, but, it would be like switching
between a K-3 and a K20D, the essentials are there, but the differences
in UI are such that it's really aggravating.
On the other hand, there is probably less difference in the quality of
output between various RAW rendering packages than between those two
cameras.
