Most mornings we put out crushed maize for the Doves. This morning there
was a sudden 15mm downpour which chased the Doves away. After the rain
stopped a couple of Giant African Land Snails came out of the
undergrowth and took over.

Very nice image.
Just how Big are these "Giant" snails.  Are they edible, and, if so, are
they part of local cuisine?

They look gargantuan. And dangerous if I read it correctly. Some kind
of parasite in their slime?

According to Wikipedia "edible if cooked properly".

In Taiwan they're "a delicacy among the traditional drinking snacks."

They're also a serious invasive species pest in the U.S. and other places.
