How is everyone doing on the other side of the Pond? The current weather
conditions certainly sound horrific. Please let us know how this is
affecting you.
It is 93 F and sunny here in the Metro NYC area today, but so far we have
been fortunate, with no extreme temperatures, fires or droughts. There was
severe flooding in parts of the region yesterday, but not where we are. I
feel a bit guilty.

It’s the best year for decades to come. It’s only downhill from here.
Nothing is being done to even slow down climate disruption.

The say that today will be the hottest day of this heatwave.
Temperatures around this place now at 19:45 local (UTC +2):
outside, street side (facing east): 34,2 deg c, max. 38
outside, back yard (facing west): 40 deg c, max. 40
inside, office (street side): 29 deg c, max. 29
inside, living room: 28 deg c, max. 28
We're smack in the city centre and if we're lucky temps outside might
drop as low as 25 deg this coming night. Not much change inside to be
expected. Once the outside walls (about 50 cm/20 inch thick) have been
heated through, this place is like a baking oven around the clock.
At least, they're forecasting only 33 deg for tomorrow and 26 for Thursday.
Still been doing a hearty dose of work today. Our customers want their
stuff on time.

Thanks for your concern, Dan.
For me, near the North Sea coast, the highest temperature outside today was
36 deg (97 F).
Not nice for going out to take pictures.
However, tomorrow morning there will be showers with thunderstorms and
lower temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.

In a word; sweltering. Over 33 degreesC here today, down to 26 now, at 9pm. Hotter than holidays in Croatia in 2018 or Cyprus in 2008, both of which were suffering heatwaves. The only way to stay moderately dry was to avoid imbibing; not a good idea. We are having to soak the garden every evening in order to prevent it turning to crisps. Luckily, one thing we are not short of here is water. So far, no occurrences of fire as seems to be happening in more southern climes. Took great care to make sure that there were no possible sources of ignition, like glass objects in windows and such like.
I've been leaving the car windows open all day but, even so, I managed to burn the small of my back on the black leather seat when I got in and my shirt rode up. Hopefully, that's the worst of the issues.

No showers or thunderstorms yet here (near Amsterdam), but the temperature is well below yesterdays, with something like 30 degrees Celsius now at 11 Am.
Yesterday had a maximum of about 37 here I think (and much worse on my balcony which is in the full sun in the afternoon).
But should indeed be e bit cooler the rest of the week ;-)
