Hi all,
I finally got tired of seeing my printer (Epson 2100, aka 2200) still wrapped up since it went into storage for our earthquake repairs 7 years ago.
I plugged it in, gave the ink cartridges a bit of a shake and ran a few cleaning cycles and I'm currently at the point where only the magenta is still clogged, presumably because that cartridge was empty (luckily I had a replacement on-hand). I'm actually amazed it's come this far.
Does anyone have any tips to try and unclog it? I've tried putting a bit of paper towel soaked with isopropyl alcohol under the head but it hasn't made much difference.
I'm not even sure I can still get replacement inks for it so I may be wasting my time, but it would be nice to get it running again.
Cheers,
Dave
This guy has a couple videos that seem to be pretty helpful for
unclogging heads.

Sooner or later "different" scares people.
I used to have a lightly used Epson Stylus Photo R2880 Inkjet Printer
which was neglected for years
(totally unattended with the ink set mounted).
Tried everything I might and failed to make the head sing again.
I had to leave it on top of an electronic garbage pile.
Now I have a lower spec model (L805) and try to keep it happy by turning it on
(even when nothing is to be printed)
every now and then.

If you have access to the ink port on the head and can obtain a disposable hypodermic, you could try fitting it directly to the port (I found a 5ml one worked best; might be different for other models) and filling the barrel with a mix of IPA and distilled or deionised water. Put the plunger back in to reduce evaporation and leave it. If you manage to get some seepage, gentle pressure might help. Time is your friend.

Next time put it on ebay with an honest description of the problem. Then
watch what happens and be surprised...
I've sold my totally clogged-up R2400 a few years ago and it still
fetched over 100 euros.
I also had tried everything but with my small amount of prints it kept
clogging and had turned into a bottomless pit. With all the money wasted
on ink for useless head cleanings I might as well have had my few prints
oil-painted.

Oh! It never occured to me. If only I knew it then!
Thank you.
I will surely remember this next time.
I might as well have had my few prints oil-painted.
That is exactly how I felt.

I’ve been using a 2880 without a single clogging incident fir years. Bought it when it was first introduced. In recent years I’ve probably made only one print a month or so but it keeps chugging along. I use only Epson ink and buy it from Atlex or Epson, never off store shelves. I don’t if any of that matters, but I suspect fresh ink is a factor.

Mine had remained unused for about 4 years, maybe 5.
At least a year or 2 of it was in a box.
I was rather too busy with other matters and wasn't surprised when I
found it dead.
The inks were originals like the ones I still have sitting somewhere unopened.
I remember thinking about selling them as such but I doubt they will perform
as good as films past their BB date.

Put them on ebay and you'll see. I've sold my remaining inks and while
it wasn't enough to retire I was pleasantly surprised.
Now, speaking of expired film, I'll have to do something to get rid of a
whole box full that contributes to the mess in our basement, not to
mention a whole lot of lab stuff. Having found out the current prices of
Jobo processors, dryer cabinets, paper safes and other lab equipment I
seem to be sitting on a small fortune.

This guy's recipe worked for me... unclogging an r2400 that I bought a
couple of years ago which was almost brand new but had been in storage
for about a year.. I still have a supply of the solution to occasionally
put it on a sheet of paper and run it through
