It's the end of January. My never-ending misery of a cold is finally out of my sinuses. And it's time to start making some photos again. I've posted a couple since January 1, but they were all photos taken last year.

Today's photo was taken with a lightly modified 1954ish Kodak Retina IIIc on Ferrania P30 film.

This particular camera I got for next to nothing because it had a badly dented top cover and a broken light meter. It has the Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenon 50mm f/2 version of the standard lens—a lovely performer!—and was otherwise working well, so I had the top cover removed, the meter removed, and then fitted it with the top cover and other needed bits from a Retina IIc that I bought (again for near nothing) as a parts camera. The result is a meterless and slightly smaller, trimmer IIIc with this superb lens. And, since the top cover is now straight and the accessory shoe aligned properly, I can use the accessory 35mm and 85mm lenses on it too with the matching viewfinder accessory.

Ferrania P30 even with my modified processing remains a punchy performer. The high silver content give it a striking look rather different from a lot of other films. This exposure popped out at me even before I scanned the exposures:

The negative was captured to digital using the Leica M10 Monochrom fitted with a Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm f/2.8. Inversion and rendering work (very light!) was performed in Lightroom Classic.

The camera performs beautifully, I'm going to enjoy a lot of shooting with it. It's very handy to carry since it is a folder and the lens is automatically protected when it's not in use ... great to slip into a large pocket or a small bag. About half the exposures on this roll I used a tiny Sekonic light meter to gauge exposure for, the other half I used a meter app on my phone ... or just guessed. Fun stuff!

onwards!

Maybe you should have tried the P67 therapy from the old Usenet article
about the P67s shutter noise. Guaranteed to clear your sinuses. ;-)

Many moons ago, I had a Retina iB and I'm still kicking myself for
giving it away.

Nice shot. I suppose the high contrast and slight overexposure of the
background is deliberate.

The camera performs beautifully, I'm going to enjoy a lot of shooting with it.

And don't part with it as stupid young me did.
