I know this because while I can click the shutter (and yes, I can see
the mirrors move with the lens off ) nothing is exposed and the
"chimping screen" is black. I thought maybe that was all that was wrong
so I shot a couple frames and fed the memory card to my computer and
nothing was recorded.
two questions..
Is this what happens when it maxes out it's shutter count?
and where can I get a K-5 body at a reasonable price? anyone have one
to sell? know a reliable vendor?
It died after I had shot a few frames using live view.. irony are us

They die in a myriad of ways, but not by looping the shutter count.
Do you get any image with live view?
Have you tried another lens?

Good to hear Ann! Meanwhile I did put my name on a watch-list for a K-5 with a trusted seller. If/when one comes up, I’ll pass along the info.
