A friend’s cat is getting old and has not been doing well. She asked me to get some photos before he passed on, we did what we could with the late afternoon light.
Here’s one I like of both of them

I have learned that there is an entire skill set to getting photos of cats, they are no more cooperative when cameras are involved than they are at any other time.

You're ahead of the game compared to me Larry - I was once asked to take photos of a pet's grave to send to the owner in another country!

You nailed the lighting, Larry... maybe late afternoon light is the best
time for photoing black animals..
This cat doesn't seem to mind being held.. perhaps because he has
little time left :-( He doesn't -look- uncooperative

We've had cats who loved being held on our arms and others who hated to
be lifted in any way. The hold-friendly variety make life a lot easier
if they need to be handled for whatever reason.
