OS 11 --> Weird problem

RW

I wonder why now, but I upgraded this computer from OS 10 to 11 yesterday.

It was a mistake.

The main problem is that clicking in the menu bar now does nothing. Do I want to quit Mail after finishing this message? Tough luck. Do I want to use any of the other menu bar functions? Too bad.

Anyone having a similar problem? Anyone have a fix?

Rick

What computer, what OS?  Is it Windows 10 to Windows 11? or macOS 10.15 (Catalina) to macOS 11 (Big Sur)? If an Apple Mac, what machine?

Have you powered it off and then back on again? (To force any Mac to power off if the menu isn't working, just hold down the power button for about 10 seconds or so.)

Godfrey,

Thanks for replying!

Problem solved in a long call with Apple support. It seems something mutated in the OS, so we re-installed it.

It’s an M1 Mac mini, running Ventura. The old Mac mini turned belly-up a couple of months ago.

Heya Rick,

Ah, good! I'm glad they helped you sort it out.
A bad update/install-over … It's rare but it does happen.

I just couldn't figure out what OS you were updating and to what; macOS Ventura is v13.x (I'm on macOS Ventura v13.2 at present with a 2018-2019 Mac mini i7-six core).

Not knowing about your OS, I almost thought you gave me another reason not
to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11! Concern about driver problems for Epson
V500 photo scanner with windows 11 is withholding me to switch. Perhaps
anybody has experience with Windows 11?

Using windows 11 from day 1. everything is working fine and never seen any
lockups, bluescreens etc. It looks like epson is supporting win11 for the
v500.

I've also been using W11 since it came out, and it has been basically rock solid - I now have it on a desktop and two laptops, one
of which is 10 years old.
I'll be very happy to see new drivers from Epson for the V500, mine played up last time I used it, in that the interface refused to
allow the Professional feature to be used.
