Never broadcast on British TV until 2018. Frinton's drunks were a regular appearance in other shows. I particularly liked his snapped cigarette prop.

It may be that you saw a news report on the continental phenomenon or maybe even a broadcast of (or were present at) a stage production. My first knowledge of it was from Youtube.
