OT: Nikon D700 hands-on

Had to go to Wikipedia for that one. I've now also learned something
today. Good reference.

Personally, I'm happy with the smaller sensors. The tricky end for
small sensor lens performance is the wide one, so if all your needs are
down there then that's where your problems will arise. Mostly I think
people are in the "I want my favorite lens to work the way it used to"
mode. But I'd rather pay $1000 for a DX format camera than $2500 for a
FF of the same quality. The only ways I would buy FF would be if it
simply got too cheap or if the FF camera was better in quality and
performance than the DX model. I currently have a K10 D, and I don't
constantly worry about having more resolution. Eventually you run into
the "good enough" limit for the majority of your customer base.

This is an interesting application of *Gresham's law* .
