[Fwd: mini GESO: watch the birdie]

  This didn't seem to get through to the list before - so I'm trying again



Today a friend called to tell me there was a redtail hawk in a tree in 
Tompkins Square Park - just a block from my apt
I had just changed batteries in my dark side camera and cleared a cf 
card - out I dashed.

Stuff is too grainy for stock, alas, and even with image stabilizer it 
could have been sharper, but it was lots of
fun - I think these three are the best I got -  

There were about 6 of us with glass that had enough reach - including 
one guy with a 300 mm shooting film who
was a knowledgeable birder...

Of the people who stopped to look over the course of about an hour at 
least half of them pointed out the "owl"
to their friends  -  and many of the rest of us chimed in with the 
correct id....  

For a while the hawk just sat there grasping the dead pigeon - finally 
he started to dine - funny to hear the kids
watching going 'euweee' and "ick"  

I know I didn't get the best shots - my auto focus messed me up a couple 
of times and my unsteadiness did as well.
But it was such fun... I hadn't been out shooting for a while.
