12-24mm vs 24-90mm at 24

On a K10D, I did a quick comparison between the 
12-24mm and the 24-90mm at 24mm & f5.6.  One shot 
full of bricks, trees, shade & sun, taken twice, 
15 seconds apart..  The 12-24 is quite a bit 
better, especially in the corners.

Color saturation is very slightly better with the 12-24.

But the color balance is surprisingly different: 
the 24-90 has green sky. All settings from RAW 
(DNG) were set to 0 (and 5000K) for both photos.

Do I have a bad 24-90 or is it like that? (I can send full size jpegs)
