Peter: Your subject here made me think of a small book of photographs by
Jacques-Henri Lartigue entitled Les Femmes Aux Cigarettes. It's filled with
portraits of Paris dance-hall women smoking. All of the women were famous
at the time (the 20s), women like Josephine Baker et al. The portraits of
the women are playful & humorous, and Lartigue states in his introduction
that he thought it "funny" to see women smoke. I like your photo. It makes
one wonder if the smoker's speakeasy is just around the bend.
