It certainly works and this is (to my mind) a better use of the technique than quite a few that I have seen.  Whether it is worthwhile, I think, depends on your definition of a "better" photograph.  I was not entirely sure that I agreed with the evaluation that files manipulated in this way produced better photographs but I am beginning to change my mind.

December?  With leaves still on the tree?
