SMCP-F 35-135/3.5-4.5 comments?

I've had two.  Both were the macro ones.  The first one died when my tripod 
went over with my brand new *istD (!).  So I got another one a year or so 
later and I'm not happy with it.  Images are alright but the thing is heavy 
for a walk around lens and the close focus distance is way too long...
